2016-2017 Volkswagen New Car Warranty Coverage
In any industry, you’ll find a certain number of products have defects. That happens, and we’re lucky in the U.S. to have Lemon Laws to cover the random dud, but you also want coverage against lesser evils. Volkswagen isn’t going to leave you high and dry when something goes wrong with the new car you just bought and brought home. The 2016-2017 New Car Warranty coverage includes everything from your powertrain to roadside assistance. And we’re not going to lie, it’s better than most of the competition.
What’s covered under the VW Basic Warranty?
So the first thing you want to know is what does the manufacturer, Volkswagen, cover when you buy your vehicle. No extras, no strings, just what’s covered:
- 3 years/36,000 miles limited warranty with roadside assistance
- 5 years/60,000 miles (10 years/100,000 miles for base trim Touareg) powertrain warranty
- 12 years/120,000 miles corrosion perforation
Of course we’re obligated to tell you the legalese, which is to come see us for more warranty details. The mileage and yearly intervals above are for demonstration purposes only, and coverage applies only through whichever number you reach first.
This basic warranty does not cover maintenance, but it may cover parts in connection with certain necessary repairs.
If you buy genuine OEM parts or accessories, these will also have their own warranty coverage. Numbers vary depending on the part, but many hover around the 12 months/12,000 mile mark.
What if you want an extended Volkswagen Warranty?
Your basic warranty has you covered for the first few years, which is excellent news for those leasing, but what if you buy a car? You might want more coverage, but that’s OK because VW provides a variety of other options, as you can see in the table below.
Do you have any more VW Warranty questions? You can find answers in your owner’s manual, or contact us for more details. Also be sure to check back here at the Compass Volkswagen Blog for more on all things VW.
