This year’s auto show season has been an eventful one for Volkswagen, to say the very least. In Detroit, we were able to get a closer look at the upcoming Atlas (which will be arriving here at Compass Volkswagen very soon—contact us to reserve yours!), and the LWB 2018 VW Tiguan and VW I.D. BUZZ Concept were unveiled. The latest auto show just occurred in Geneva, where the all-new VW Arteon made its debut! Where do you start when you research a vehicle? If you’re like most people, you’ll find yourself on Edmunds, KBB and then maybe some popular magazines like Car & Driver or Motor Trend. What do all these sources have in common? Professional automotive journalists reviewing brand new cars they’ve driven for perhaps a week or so. Some will do long-term tests, but the results are usually toward the end of a model year, when you might already start looking forward to what’s coming next if you happen to be on the market for a new car during the model year end. This year was mostly a rollover year when it comes to the Volkswagen lineup which means the models retain the same great features, with a few key updates. Some of the things to be excited about include the MIB II infotainment system available in most models and improved driver assistance features, but only the 2016 Volkswagen Passat offered a facelift. Suddenly it seems we’re flooded with even more exciting news, as we’ve turned the corner into a new year and the start of some important shows. CES 2016 brought us the BUDD-e, and now at NAIAS we’re learning more about the off-road capability of the Tiguan GTE Active, both showing that EVs and hybrids are the best direction for VW. We have to admit, we’ve chosen a great time to start a new blog. The Consumer Electronics Show was just held in Las Vegas, and Volkswagen had plenty of things to show off. Chief among them is the VW BUDD-e concept, which is the first vehicle on the automaker’s new Modular Electric Platform (MEB). There is a distracting amount of things going on with BUDD-e, from new design direction to a host of features that make it seem like we’re taking a sharp leap into the future, but the new platform should be one of the major things focused on as we consider what the concept means for the future of the brand.
