Given all the shakeups in the Volkswagen inventory over the last few decades, the Golf has stood firm to deliver efficient performance and an adaptable interior. The automaker has also continued to produce a high-performance ‘hot hatch’ version like the Golf R. Earlier this month we learned about the release date for the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R. 2022 Volkswagen Golf R Performance Specs

The heart of the 2022 VW Golf R is the EA888 powerplant. It consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that will be attached to the traditional six-speed automatic transmission or an optional seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The latter of the two gear-changers is going to exclusive to the North American market. Drivers will be able to expect the powertrain to make 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Both output figures represent very marked increases over the previous Golf R model.

According to early Volkswagen estimates, the 2022 VW Golf R will have a top track speed of 155 miles per hour.

Does the 2022 Golf R have AWD?

It is not enough to simply wrap some sheet metal around a powerful engine and send drivers out in the world. People need to be able to safely and deftly coral this power. The 2022 Golf R will feature the torque vectoring 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system as well as a larger and more capable braking system. One of the upgrades that are being applied to the 4Motion® AWD feature is that 100 percent of available torque can be directed to the outer wheels when the 2022 VW Golf R is negotiating an aggressive turn. The idea of this capability is that it will help eliminate understeering and provide more precise handling.

Finally, the Volkswagen ESC system can be manipulated on the fly. In fact, experienced drivers can turn it off in certain situations. However, the technology is so intelligent it can be automatically reactivated in an emergency.
