Volkswagen Beetle Throughout the Years Photo Gallery
In the automobile’s century-long history, few cars stand out as much as Volkswagen’s Beetle model. Introduced in 1938, the Volkswagen Type 1 was meant to serve as an affordable family car that could be dependable during Germany’s harsh winters with the help of an innovative air-cooled engine placed in the rear of the vehicle. The Volkswagen Type 1 was built with a rounded shape to assist with aerodynamics in order to handle the high speeds of the newly-built German Autobahn. That round shape would strike a chord with Americans, who would go on to call the model “the Beetle” and make it a top seller during the post-WWII suburbia boom.
Currently, the Volkswagen Beetle is recognized as one of the most recognizable and best-selling models that have remained in production in some way. For 2017, the Volkswagen Beetle comes in coupe or convertible format, and there is a special edition #PinkBeetle model available!
