VW expands its crossover SUV lineup with the Taos

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos? 

Crossover SUVs are the most dominant automotive platform in the United States. Volkswagen has been doing quite well in that regard with its best-selling Tiguan, as well as with its two newest additions — the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. However, when next summer rolls around there will be a new model for Compass VW customers to consider. So, what is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos? The all-new compact crossover SUV will slot beneath the Tiguan, offering a customer a new entry-level option for the class. 2022 Taos Performance Specs 

Every 2022 Volkswagen Taos that will arrive at the Compass VW showroom will be equipped with the same engine, a turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder power plant that will make 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Versions of the new compact crossover SUV with front-wheel-drive will use an eight-speed automatic and those employing the 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system will have a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

“Taos is our fifth new addition to the Volkswagen SUV family in just four years, and we’re thrilled to keep finding new ways to meet the needs of American families,” Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, said in a press release. “Taos will bookend our compact SUV offering, giving buyers all the style, technology, and drivability that Volkswagen is known for at an even more affordable price.” 

Interior Dimensions 

The 2022 VW Taos will feature two rows of seats that will accommodate five passengers. In terms of legroom, the driver and front passenger will be able to use up to 40.1 inches of legroom. Rear passengers can use up to 37.9 cubic-feet. Additionally, when people are using the rear seat of the 2022 Taos, there will be 28.1 cubic-feet of cargo volume available. Folding the rear seat down will more than double that figure – maxing out at 66.3 cubic-feet.
