2022 Volkswagen Atlas vs. 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan: What’s the Difference?

The 2022 Atlas belongs to the class of crossover SUVs. You can choose an Atlas with three rows, which can hold up to seven people, or one with two rows, which can hold five. The name of the two-row Atlas is “Atlas Cross Sport.”

Even with the third row in place, there is still about 20 cubic feet of space for cargo in the cabin. You can choose between a turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the Atlas or a more powerful V-6 engine.

The cabin of the 2022 Tiguan is a little smaller than the Atlas and falls into the compact crossover category because of the size difference. But unlike many compact competitors, the Tiguan has a third row of seats that can be added if needed. If you add the extra seats, the back cargo space will be about 12 cubic feet, which is about enough for a load of groceries. Adding the third row of seats also gives you seating for seven out of the Tiguan.

2022 Volkswagen Atlas vs. Tiguan: Which is More Fuel Efficient? 

Newburgh drivers usually look toward fuel efficiency when purchasing any new model – especially with our current fuel prices. The good news is that both of these options have excellent fuel economy considering each SUV’s respective class. The Atlas gets 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, while the Tiguan yields 23 mpg and 30 mpg. 2022 Volkswagen Atlas vs. Tiguan: Which Is Bigger? 

Both of these VW crossovers have cabins that look a lot alike. The main difference is that the Atlas comes standard with leather seats, while the Tiguan’s base trim has cloth seats.

Beyond cosmetics, there’s also quite a difference in their size. The Atlas has comfortable seats for adults in all three rows, including a third row that is easy to get to. The first two rows of the Tiguan can fit adults, while the third row is small and best for kids, as it’s easily swapped for more cargo space. 

The Atlas can carry an impressive 96 cubic feet of cargo when the two back rows are folded flat. This will attract buyers who need to move large items. The most cargo space the Tiguan can hold is 73 cubic feet, which you can get with its two-row configuration and the back row folded flat.

The Atlas is probably the best choice if you want adults to sit in all three rows of your cabin or if you often carry large items in your car. The Tiguan is a good choice if you only need the third row for kids or if you want a two-row SUV with a lot of space for cargo in the back.
